Self-portrait 3

I made it a goal to do a self-portrait every year. I think this one is my favorite so far. I know I definitely had the most fun doing it.

Local Fundraiser

(Click on flier to enlarge.)

Starting this Saturday, my friend Sarah is selling beautiful, original artworks for under $35! That's so cheap, it almost hurts. If that isn't fabulous enough, all proceeds will be donated to Huntsman Cancer Institute. Come check it out!

(Painting by one of my all-time favorite artists, Waterhouse.)

It seems to me we can never give up longing and wishing while we are alive. There are certain things we feel to be beautiful and good, and we must hunger for them. -George Eliot

For as long as I can remember, I've had a thing for spirals. I'm not sure why. Was it because I subconsciously knew they had deeper meaning or was it because I simply thought they looked cool? What fascinates me is the spiral is actually a reoccurring shape in nature:

Fern frond
Big horn sheep
Spiral aloe.
Spiral in outer space.

Note the five spirals in my latest painting. One of the five is a little tricky to find.
Not only do I think the spiral can be funky and beautiful, it also has rich symbolic meaning. I knew it represented eternal life, but until now I didn't know it also symbolizes progress, fertility, birth, death, transformation, direction, initiation, growth, the soul, expansion, spiritual journey, cycles of life and time, the sun, centering, feminine energy, expanding, connection, balance, journeying, development and God.

Vivid Dreams

Alice laughed: "There's no use trying," she said; "one can't believe impossible things.""I daresay you haven't had much practice," said the Queen. "When I was younger, I always did it for half an hour a day. Why, sometimes I've believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast." ~Alice in Wonderland.

The Choice

This was inspired by the Biblical story of Eve and the forbidden fruit. Eve had a big choice to make. I find myself faced with a lot of big choices right now.

I know. Shocker. It's not a woman. Fact is, back in my teen years I preferred painting/drawing men. I guess I go through phases.

Solo Exhibit @ SLC Ink

My show last night was a success. Besides the rain that discouraged a lot of the strollers from coming (hence the name "gallery stroll"), and my yucky cold I can't seem to shake, it was a magical night. Me. (Do you like my Mr. Blow Fish shirt?)
Some of my work on a pretty red wall.
Always gotta wear cool shoes. Funky socks are just icing on the cake.
My peeps--Averi and Jeff.
Uncle John and Aunt Bonnie.
Eris and Halcyon.
Nathan and Sarah.
Anne and I (my bestie growing up).
Anne, Jared and Eris.
My moma.
Me and my lover boy.
Rachel, me, Dad and Mom.
Maria (my high school pal) and I.
My Aunt Vickie and cousins.

Blue Cat

Is it considered cheating on my dog when I paint cats?

Green Eyes

At 8x10 inches, this is one of the smallest paintings I've done in a long time. I usually like to paint on medium to large surfaces (16x20 and 18x24 are my favorites) but I thought it would be fun to try something different.

This one was so much fun to do! Notice my tribute to Klimt (Klimt-style flowers), one of my biggest influences and longtime favorite artists.

In Green

I forced myself out of winter hibernation and finally painted. This isn't a favorite, but it was fun to do. I have a major crush on green these days.

PS I'm on facebook now. Find me and become a fan: Juliette Caron--Paintings (Pretty please??)
