I made it a goal to do a self-portrait every year. I think this one is my favorite so far. I know I definitely had the most fun doing it.

Spirals

For as long as I can remember, I've had a thing for spirals. I'm not sure why. Was it because I subconsciously knew they had deeper meaning or was it because I simply thought they looked cool? What fascinates me is the spiral is actually a reoccurring shape in nature:

Fern frond
Big horn sheep

Weather.

Spiral aloe.

Seashell.

Spiral in outer space.

Snail.

Note the five spirals in my latest painting. One of the five is a little tricky to find.
Not only do I think the spiral can be funky and beautiful, it also has rich symbolic meaning. I knew it represented eternal life, but until now I didn't know it also symbolizes progress, fertility, birth, death, transformation, direction, initiation, growth, the soul, expansion, spiritual journey, cycles of life and time, the sun, centering, feminine energy, expanding, connection, balance, journeying, development and God.

Vivid Dreams

The Choice

This was inspired by the Biblical story of Eve and the forbidden fruit. Eve had a big choice to make. I find myself faced with a lot of big choices right now.

Ruminate

I know. Shocker. It's not a woman. Fact is, back in my teen years I preferred painting/drawing men. I guess I go through phases.

Solo Exhibit @ SLC Ink

My show last night was a success. Besides the rain that discouraged a lot of the strollers from coming (hence the name "gallery stroll"), and my yucky cold I can't seem to shake, it was a magical night. Me. (Do you like my Mr. Blow Fish shirt?)
