Brenden 2
This is the second painting I did of Brenden, my brother's friend. He asked me to do another one so he could use the two images for his album art (Brenden's an artist AND a musician). I was flattered and obliged. This one took me a bit longer than usual. I drew inspiration from Atoms for Peace, Passion Pit, The National (I have tickets to their show, by the way!), Nikki and the Dove and De/vision.

Flowers in Her Hair
This is the second painting I've done of Raquel. I think she has an interesting and beautiful face. I thought I'd try something new this time--I start with an abstract (splashes of random colors) background, then I drew the figure on top, then painted it. Another new experiment--using paper doilies as stencils. I used other stencils, too, of course. I'm pleased with the way it turned out. Painting is so much fun!

The Good Shepherd
I don't usually do religious themed work, but I have been wanting a colorful portrait of Christ for my home for some time now. Most of the stuff out there is in muted tones, and more traditionally rendered. But the idea of painting the Savior is intimidating as all-get-out--at least for me. How does one capture on canvas the perfect love He has for us? But I figured it's better to try and fail than to never try at all, so finally got off my lazy butt and made this. I'm really pleased with it. I love the vivid colors, and I'm also happy I was able to capture a look of compassion and concern on Jesus' face. I hope this rendition touches a small handful of people. Within
I'm constantly experimenting and trying new things to prevent boredom. This time I thought it would be interesting to add patterns all over the subject's skin. Flowers, polka-dots, leopard print, etc. I'm pretty pleased with the outcome.

Now
I had a lot of fun with this one. It was the first time I've used faux gold leaf in years. Making the crazy quilt brought me back to my teen years when I'd doodle all over my school folders. I was kind of going for a bohemian feel with the Indian style quilt, the exotic top, the glittery cheeks and the butterfly on her forearm.
Reminiscing 2
I did this one last month but I didn't get around to photographing it until today. As you can probably see, I'm having fun playing around with stencils.

Brenden
Brenden is my brother's friend. When I saw his photo on facebook, I knew I had to paint him. His facial expression says so much and hopefully I was able to capture it here.
Michal 2
This is the second painting I did of my good friend, Michal. She has such an interesting and beautiful face--my favorite kind to paint.

New Year's Resolution
One of my New Year's Resolutions is to paint more! I think I'm doing all right because I've completed three paintings so far this year and it's not even February. Not bad, eh? What are your New Year's resolutions?

Camille (Portrait of My Mom)
My mom is a beautiful woman, don't you think? She wanted to surprise my dad with an extra special gift for his 60th birthday, so she commissioned me to paint her portrait. (Of course mom gets a deep discount.) I hope my dad loves it. Happy 60th, Dad!
